Practice your residency interview out loud
An AI faculty interviewer asks real questions by voice and follows up when an answer is thin. Your report scores every answer and rewrites it from what you said. The first interview is free.
01
Choose what to practice
A specialty, or a real program from our directory, and what the interview leans on: a classic interview, behavioral questions, international graduate or off-cycle.
02
Talk it through
A faculty interviewer asks one question at a time, by voice, and follows up when an answer is thin. Speak or type, with your camera on if you like.
03
Read your report
A score out of 100, every answer reviewed, your pace and filler words measured, and a stronger version of each answer built from what you said.
A report that fixes the answer, not only the delivery
Every answer gets a score, what worked, what to change, and a stronger version written from your own words, with a gap marked wherever only you can fill in the detail. Your pace, answer length and filler words are counted from the recording.
- A score out of 100 and five ratings: substance, structure, fit, communication, professionalism
- The answer that cost you most, lifted out so you practice it first
- Red flags an interviewer would note: blame, a gap left unexplained, a remark about a past program
Example · Why our program?
“Your program has a great reputation and strong training, and the residents seemed supportive.”
What to change: Every program hears this answer. Name two things that are true of this program only, and tie each to something you have done.
Stronger, from what you said
I want to train where most patients come from underserved communities, as they did in the district hospital where I worked. Your [primary care track] would let me keep doing that work, and during my observership in Michigan I saw [what you saw on teaching rounds] that I want to be part of.
Practice for the program you're seeing
Each of our 14,741 program pages has a “Practice this interview” button. The interviewer knows the program and its stated visa policy, and checks your “why us”.

A place that opens outside the Match is filled fast, often after one call. Practice “why now” and “why are you leaving” before it rings.
Off-cycle interview questionsInterview questions, and how to answer them
What faculty interviewers ask, what they are really listening for, and where answers go wrong. Start with the questions every program asks, then your specialty.

Questions about interview practice
Is the mock interview free?
Your first interview is free with an account, report included. Premium includes up to 3 interviews a day for any specialty or program, along with every program's contact and instant vacancy alerts, for $39 a month, or $99 for 3 months. The 3-month term covers a whole interview season.
Do I need a microphone or camera?
A microphone lets you practice out loud, which is the point, and lets the report measure your pace and filler words. You can type any answer instead. The camera is optional and only shows you to yourself, the way a video interview does.
Is my voice recorded or stored?
Each spoken answer is turned into text and the recording is discarded. The text is kept in your account so your report can quote it, and you can delete any interview, or your whole account, at any time. Your camera picture never leaves your browser.
How is an interview scored?
Each answer is scored from 1 to 5, and the interview from 0 to 100, on substance, structure, fit, communication and professionalism, the way faculty interviewers judge them. Pace, answer length and filler words are counted from your recordings rather than estimated.
Can I practice for a specific program?
Yes. Every program page on ResidencySpot has a button to practice its interview. The interviewer then knows the program's name, city and what its own website says about visas and international graduates, and your report checks whether your answer to "why us" was really about that program.
Does it cover IMG, off-cycle and fellowship interviews?
Yes. Choose the international graduate focus for questions on visas, gaps since graduation, US clinical experience and exam history; the off-cycle focus for a vacancy outside the Match or a transfer; or any fellowship specialty.
Does it replace a mock interview with a person?
It is practice you can repeat as often as you need, at any hour, before the mock interview with your advisor or mentor and in between. The feedback is written by AI from your transcript, so read it as guidance alongside the advice of people who know you.
