Before you contact the program

1. 01

   Find the application route

Most residencies take applications through ERAS and fill their places in the NRMP Match; a few specialties use their own match. The program's page gives its route, deadlines and interview season.

2. 02

   Check eligibility first

Look for the program's visa policy, licensing and exam requirements (USMLE or COMLEX), any limit on years since graduation, and for a residency, the training it expects you to have completed.

3. 03

   Need a place sooner?

Programs also fill places outside the regular cycle, when a trainee leaves or a new position is funded. Those are listed on ResidencySpot as vacancies, and a saved search tells you the day one is posted.

4. 04

   Where training happens

The program is listed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Some programs rotate trainees across several hospitals, so confirm the main training site and any required moves.
